Laika’s Tips for Spring Cleaning

IT IS THE RIGHT TIME TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR MOTORHOME!

San Casciano in Val di Pesa, March 2021 – Spring has arrived, but we still don’t know when it will be possible to travel again. This time can still be valuable for our motorhome, as we can devote ourselves to a thorough cleaning of our vehicle before putting it back on the road. These simple tips will help you with cleaning inside and outside your vehicle, without risking any damage to your motorhome!

How to clean the inside of your motorhome

When cleaning the inside of the motorhome, it is recommended not to use abrasive products, but rather household detergents and products.

• Do not use detergents containing chlorine, abrasive cleaners, metal scouring pads or brushes to clean all stainless steel surfaces. Also, it is important to dry stainless steel surfaces thoroughly after using them.
• Furniture and painted surfaces should be cleaned with a damp woollen cloth. If necessary, specific furniture polishes can also be used.
• When cleaning plastic materials (e.g. bathroom fixtures), only mild soap and water should be used.
• Do not use corrosive products to clean the drains, otherwise they could be damaged.
• The dashboard should be cleaned using only a damp cloth.

Procedures for cleaning the flooring

The surface of the flooring must be treated with great care, so for its cleaning it is advisable to use only mild soap diluted with water and rinse with cold water.

• Never use steam cleaners, aggressive detergents and abrasive sponges.
• The flooring surface is sensitive to impact, and can be damaged by falling heavy or sharp objects, as well as by continuous rubbing or sliding of objects. It is therefore important to be careful when placing ladders or stools on the flooring.
• Also, if you need to lean heavy loads on it, make sure you protect the flooring properly first.

Cleaning the outside of the motorhome

High-pressure cleaners should not be used to clean the exterior of the motorhome, and mild detergents specifically for aluminium should be used. Alcohol should not be used to clean window covers and all plastic parts.

How to clean tanks

For good maintenance, it is advisable to clean the fresh water tank and the waste water tank before a long period of inactivity of the vehicle, and in any case at least once a year.

For the best treatment, just follow these simple steps:

• Open the inspection cap of the fresh water tank and remove any residue that may be present.
• Fill the fresh water tank and the waste water tank to about half capacity, adding the specific disinfectant products available on the market. At this stage you should follow the instructions of the disinfectant product you are using.
• Drive the vehicle a short distance so that the water inside the tanks moves.
• Empty the tanks and rinse them with plenty of clean water.

Remember to drain without causing any damage to the environment.
